Nicht: Part 1 - Catalepsy sinks

Goth metal. Now, what in fuck’s name is “goth metal”? I mean, can anyone explain to me why do we have to have so fucking many sub-sub-sub-sub categories in metal? “Funereal doom metal”. “Tech-fusion death metal”. “Blackened death metal”. “Melodic death metal”. “Suicidal/depressive black metal”. “Symphonic black metal”. “Metalcore”. “Mallcore”. “Industrial death/black metal”. And, now, “goth metal”. I suppose that you can easily see the retardosity of the whole situation, right?

Now, as far as Nicht, a French trio, is concerned, they’re supposed to play “goth metal”, which, in this case, is nothing more than an euphemism for “mid-tempo-to-slow doomy music with synths and a guy who alternates between a constipated shout and ineffective clean vocals, plus a dudette with quasi-operatic voice”. The music, at least at times, tries to replicate Neurosis’ trademarked dynamics and fails miserably. When the band does that, things go down the drain for ‘em.

I think that I have already spent too much time on this, so I’ll close things off by telling you that these guys REALLY need to get their shit together and try, first and foremost, to decide what kind of music do they want to play. And THEN, they should work and work and work, before releasing anything else. For now, they are just a completely faceless band that produces inconsequential music. Not exactly offensive, but, also, irritating enough to get from me a…
